PURPOSE OF JOB

The External Reporting and Accounting Policy Manager is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of all required SEC filings and assisting with other SEC reporting requirements.  This position also is responsible for monitoring changes in accounting pronouncements and determining what impact, if any, the proposed and/or final changes will have on the Company’s financial statements and financial performance.  Additionally, this position will serve as the Accounting Department’s primary point of contact with Reliant Mortgage Ventures (RMV). It is estimated that 40% of this position’s scheduled time will be spent providing accounting services and financial management support to RMVs leadership group.  Additionally, this position is responsible for working with external providers to complete tax returns for the Company and all related entities.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the External Reporting and Accounting Policy functions, ensuring technology is functioning at an acceptable level and verifying the needs of internal and external clients are met
  • Prepares completely, accurately, and within required timeframe all quarterly, annual and per occurrence SEC regulatory filings, including but not limited to 10K, 10Q and S4
  • Responsible for ensuring the accurate, complete and timely preparation of all federal and state tax filings and payments
  • Provides day-to-day financial management and accounting support to Reliant Mortgage Ventures leadership team, including monthly preparation of financial statements
  • Actively participates in the month-end close process at both bank and mortgage division
  • Coordinates with accounting department personnel to ensure timely, complete and accurate preparation of CALL Report and FRY-9 regulatory filings
  • Coordinates with external accountants and legal counsel to ensure information included in external filings is complete, accurate and prepared in accordance with all regulatory, FASB & SEC requirements
  • Coordinates with Risk, External Audit and department personnel to ensure that an effective system of internal controls is in place and functioning effectively for all financial reporting processes
  • Monitors FASB and other regulatory authority announcements to identify changes in accounting policy or regulatory requirements and coordinate with CAO to determine what, if any, impact the change will have on Company’s financial statements
  • Builds positive working relationships throughout the bank to understand and meet the needs of other departments, and be aware of events that occur elsewhere in the bank that have an impact on department
  • Monitors and challenges the processes and functions performed by department personnel to ensure that industry best practices are being followed and that technology is leveraged where appropriate to create efficiencies and to increase effectiveness of team
  • Promotes the bank’s products and services whenever possible; participates in bank sponsored events, networking and volunteer opportunities at every opportunity

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • College Degree in Accounting with MPA and/or CPA preferred
  • Minimum five or more years of bank and mortgage industry accounting experience or as a CPA specializing in financial institution practice preferred
  • Minimum five years of accounting / financial reporting experience at an SEC registered company or at a public accounting firm preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of SEC requirements, XBRL tagging requirements and FASB ASC
  • Ability to research and provide guidance on complying with complex accounting treatments.
  • Proven ability to work well with employees at all levels, train and motivate department staff
  • Proficiency in MS Office, accounting software, and database structures
  • Ability to communicate effectively through writing, speaking and listening
  • Uses strong persuasive skills in positive or negative situations, demonstrates group presentation skills and conducts productive meetings
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong analytical skills – ability to synthesize complex and diverse information
  • Maintains a professional image with public interaction
