PURPOSE OF JOB

The BSA Specialist will assist in the day to day compliance of all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) compliance program. This position advises the BSA Department of emerging compliance issues and assists the Bank in the establishment of controls to mitigate those risks.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains knowledge of BSA related laws and regulations including Bank’s policies and procedures.
  • Assists front line staff with proper completion of Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) when needed, ensures accuracy of the information, and prepares/executes the CTR in the BSA related software.
  • Performs daily review, monitoring, and analysis of various reports, logs, and transaction data to identify trends, unusual activity, and monitor large currency activity, determines if transactions appear suspicious and prepare correspondences for SAR Committee.
  • Assists in the monitoring of account activity for suspicious patterns, conducts high risk customer account reviews including customer due diligence (CDD) or enhanced due diligence (EDD) research.
  • Assists in the administration of the automated BSA/AML software and responding to the software reports and alerts.
  • Assists with maintaining exempt account records and conducts ongoing reviews.
  • Reviews new account information for compliance with Customer Information Profile (CIP), beneficial ownership and assigning appropriate risk profile levels.
  • Communicates with employees and/or management to follow-up on questionable CIP items or other audit exceptions. Prepares periodic reporting of compliance monitoring results.
  • Provides input to management on streamlining program, policy enhancements and training needs, as applicable, to ensure bank wide BSA/AML/OFAC/CIP compliance.
  • Assists the Risk Department with various projects, procedures, policies, and risk assessments as requested.
  • Assists with BSA compliance related employee training.
  • Assists with all BSA related audits and examinations.
  • Attends seminars, workshops, and various trainings as necessary to maintain and further expand compliance expertise.
  • Promotes the Bank’s products and services whenever possible; participates in bank sponsored events and networking opportunities, volunteer opportunities, and endorses the Bank’s brand promise at every opportunity.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree or work experience equivalent.
  • Comprehends legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through speaking, writing and listening
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word or the equivalent and the ability to create various reports.
  • Strong, analytical, organizational, investigative and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use specialized software.
  • Ability to resolve issues, work independently, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to research and provide opinion based off research.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with all functional areas of banking.
  • General knowledge of banking policies and procedures is desirable.
